03047000 LOYALHANNA CREEK AT LOYALHANNA DAM, PA
LOCATION - Lat 40°27'32", long 79°26'58" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Westmoreland County, PA, Hydrologic Unit 05010008, on left bank 1,030 ft downstream from Loyalhanna Dam, 1.8 mi south of Saltsburg, and 4.7 mi upstream from confluence with Conemaugh River.
DRAINAGE AREA - 290 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - Revisions: Prior to December 22, 2023, the datum of gage was reported as 889.38 ft above National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - 1940-91, 2005-2009 (discharge measurements only), 2010 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 870.18 ft above North American Vertical Datum of 1988.  Prior to Oct 1, 2004, at site 1,000 ft upstream. Prior to December 22, 2023, the datum of gage was erroneously reported as 889.38 ft above National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929. Satellite telemetry at station.
COOPERATION - Station established and maintained by the U.S. Geological Survey in cooperation with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Pittsburgh District.
REMARKS -

Flow completely regulated by Loyalhanna Lake (station 03046850), 0.2 mi upstream, and Latrobe Reservoir, combined capacity 99,000 acre-ft. The lowest daily mean discharge for the period of daily record was the result of the gates being closed at Loyalhanna Dam. Record is good except estimated discharge which is considered poor. 

WATER-QUALITY RECORDS
PERIOD OF DAILY RECORD - WATER TEMPERATURE: October 2009 to current year.
INSTRUMENTATION - Water-temperature sensor interfaced with a data collection platform with 15-minute recording interval.
REMARKS -

Historically, water temperatures below 0 degrees Celsius were not reported. Water temperature sensors now have the ability to accurately read water temperatures below 0 degrees Celsius. 

Cross-sectional water quality data is available upon request.

Records for water temperature in water year 2014 are fair.

For water year 2015, records for water temperature are rated fair.

For water year 2016, records for water temperature are rated fair. 

For water year 2017, temperature records are rated poor.

For water year 2018, records for water temperature are rated poor. 

For water year 2019, records for water temperature are rated poor. 

Beginning water year 2020, water quality records are no longer given qualitative ratings "excellent", "good", "fair", or "poor".
