LOCATION - Lat 38°56'12.1", long 88°01'20.4" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, in NW 1/4 NW 1/4 sec.30, T.6 N., R.14 W., Jasper County, IL, Hydrologic Unit 05120112, on right bank at upstream side of bridge on County Highway 9 at Ste. Marie, 2.5 miles upstream from mouth of North Fork and at mile 48.2.
DRAINAGE AREA - 1,516 mi².

Prior to June 29, 1940, nonrecording gage and June 29, 1940, to Jan. 24, 1967, water-stage recorder at same site at datum 1.00 ft higher.

EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - SURFACE-WATER DISCHARGE AND STAGE: Maximum discharge, 60,400 ft³/s, June 7, 2008, from rating curve extended above 42,000 ft³/s, gage height, 28.06 ft; minimum discharge, 1.0 ft³/s, observed, Oct. 5-9, 1914.
