03460000 CATALOOCHEE CREEK NEAR CATALOOCHEE, NC
LOCATION - Lat 35°40'02", long 83°04'22" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Haywood County, NC, Hydrologic Unit 06010106, Lat 35040'02", long 83004'22" (NAD 83), (Quad. Cove Creek Gap or 174 NE), on left bank 20 ft downstream from bridge on State Highway 284, 500 ft upstream from Little Cataloochee Creek and 2 miles north of Cataloochee, Haywood County.
DRAINAGE AREA - 49.2 mi². 49.2 sq mi (measured by TVA from planimetric maps, scale 1:24,000). Basin is entirely in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It is covered with hardwood, with thick underbrush of rhododendron and laurel and other species. There is one state road (284) which runs along the ridge on the east side of the basin and crosses the stream at the gage. The Park Service maintains a road along the right bank of creek from near the gage to the ranger station about center of basin.

Gage datum was revised on October 01, 2021, based on an error in the determination of the gage datum.

SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - October 1933 to September 1952, October 1962 to current year. Monthly discharge only for some periods, published in WSP 1306.
GAGE - Data collection platform. Datum of gage is 2,457.30 ft. above NAVD of 1988. Satellite telemetry at streamgage.
REMARKS - Gage-height records are generally good. Discharge records are generally fair except for estimated discharges, which are poor. EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF DAILY RECORD - SPECIFIC CONDUCTANCE: Maximum, 43 microsiemens, June 13, 1974; minimum, 7 microsiemens, Feb. 28, 1983. WATER TEMPERATURE: Maximum, 23.5°C, Aug. 5, 1977; minimum, -0.1°C, periodically in winter months.
