03500240 CARTOOGECHAYE CREEK NEAR FRANKLIN, NC
LOCATION - Lat 35°09'32", long 83°23'39" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Macon County, NC, Hydrologic Unit 06010202, on downstream side of bridge at center pier on State Road 1152 (old U.S.23), 0.1 mile downstream from unnamed creek, 1.8 miles south of Franklin, Macon County, and 1.9 miles upstream from mouth.
DRAINAGE AREA - 57.1 mi². (measured by TVA from topographic maps, scale 1:24,000). A portion of upper reaches of basin is in the Nantahala National Forest, which is steep and heavily wooded. The major part of basin is comprised of steep wooded slopes, small farms, and rural communities in the valleys and is moderately populated. Average annual rainfall is 55-65 inches.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - June 1961 to current year. Periodic low-flow measurements, water years 1944, 1947, 1953-55, 1958, 1960.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 2,017.18 ft above NGVD of 1929. Satellite telemetry at streamgage.

EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Flood in June 1949 reached a stage of 15.6 ft, from studies by Tennessee Valley Authority; discharge, about 7,000 ft³/s.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge from rating curve extended above 3,300 ft³/s on basis of contracted-opening measurement of peak flow.
