LOCATION - Lat 35°21'42.98", long 84°16'44.74" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Monroe County, TN, Hydrologic Unit 06010204, on right bank .5 mi. upstream from bridge on TN-360, 0.4 mi downstream from Laurel Creek, 0.8 mi east of Tellico Plains, and at mile 28.2.
DRAINAGE AREA - 118 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - WSP 1336: 1927-28(M), 1936, 1940, 1944. On August 20, 2014, peak discharge for water years 2010 through 2013 were revised and supersedes information published in the 2010 through 2013 reports.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - July 1925 to February 1982, December 2000 to current year. Published as "near Tellico Plains" October 1927 to September 1930.
GAGE - Data collection platform. Datum of gage is 846.397 ft NAVD88. July 20, 1925 to Sept. 30, 1927, nonrecording gage at same site and datum. Oct. 1, 1927, to Sept. 30, 1930, nonrecording gage at site 0.5 mi upstream at datum 8.29 ft higher.
REMARKS - Records rated good, except for estimated record which is rated poor and other periods as noted.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Flood in May 1840 reached a stage of 15 ft, discharge, about 21,500 ft³/s, from reports of Tennessee Valley Authority.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge of 19,900 ft³/s, Mar. 16, 1973, from rating curve extended above 12,000 ft³/s on basis of slope-area measurements of peak flow; maximum gage height, 14.18 ft, from dross line in well; minimum discharge 12 ft³/s, Sept. 9-11, 2007.
