03571000 SEQUATCHIE RIVER NEAR WHITWELL, TN
LOCATION - Lat 35°12'23.42", long 85°29'49.68" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Marion County, TN, Hydrologic Unit 06020004, on upstream side of Teague Road bridge, 1.5 mi. east of Whitwell, 3.0 mi. upstream of State Highway 283, 4.5 mi. downstream from Griffith Creek, and at river mile 25.1. Site located on Ketner Gap 7.5-min. quadrangle.
DRAINAGE AREA - 402 mi² of which 18 mi² probably is noncontributing.

SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - Oct. 1920 to Sept. 1994; Oct. 1, 2001 to Sept. 30, 2008; Oct. 1, 2009 to present. Prior to December 1920, monthly discharges only, published in WSP 1306. Unadjusted gage height values for missing periods available from TVA.
GAGE - Data collection platform. Datum of gage is 632.605 ft. above NAVD of 1988. Prior to Sept. 18, 1927, nonrecording gage at same datum 0.03 ft. higher. Sept. 18, 1927, to Sept. 30, 1930, nonrecording gage at bridge 15 ft. upstream at present datum.
REMARKS - Records good except for estimated discharges which are poor and other periods as noted; rated fair, Oct. 1, 2013-Sept. 30, 2014, Aug. 3, 2015-Apr. 11, 2016, Dec. 8, 2016-Aug. 2, 2017. Rated poor, April 27-June 7, 2016. Prior to 1950, some diurnal fluctuation caused by small mills above station.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Flood of Mar. 1867 reached a stage of about 19 ft. from TVA reports.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge 35,400 ft³/s, maximum gage height, 18.02 ft., Dec. 23, 1990. Minimum discharge 16 ft³/s, Sept. 6-21, 27, 28, 1925.
