LOCATION - Lat 34°41'24", long 86°35'47" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Madison County, AL, Hydrologic Unit 06030002, on upstream right end of bridge on Johnson Road, 2.3 mi southeast of West Station Post Office in Huntsville, and at mile 12.2.
DRAINAGE AREA - 41.8 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - WDR AL-99-1: 1992-98 (M).
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - January 1967 to September 1968 (TVA), March 1971 to September 1974 (flood-hydrograph only), September 1984 to current year (flood-hydrograph only). Flood-hydrograph record published from October 1991.
GAGE -

Flood-hydrograph station consisting of permanent-record rainfall, continuous-record stage, peak discharges above base gage-height of 7.88 ft.

Datum of gage is 565.18 ft. above NAVD of 1988 (Reference Frame NAD_83 (2011) (EPOCH:2010.0000) GEOID18).

Prior to December 06, 2023, the datum of gage was converted from NGVD29 (565.34 ft) to NAVD 88 (565.488 ft).  Neither of which were ever assigned in MLR.  Prior to September 1984, the datum of gage was 573.03 ft. NGVD29.

REMARKS - Records are poor except for other periods as noted. High flow discharges are available in NWIS.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Flood of March 16, 1973 reached a stage of 12.50 ft (former datum), discharge, 11,000 ft³/s. This occurred prior to extensive channel work.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge, 14,900 ft³/s, May 6, 2003; gage height, 17.31 ft (present datum).
CLIMATOLOGICAL RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - October 1970-September 1974, October 1984 to current year.
INSTRUMENTATION - Tipping bucket precipitation gage (permanent-record rainfall) and data logger.
REMARKS - Precipitation data collected during freezing periods may not accurately reflect daily record.
