LOCATION - Lat 42°38'00", long 83°13'28" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, in NW 1/4 sec.36, T.3 N., R.10 E., Oakland County, MI, Hydrologic Unit 04090003, on right bank 10 ft upstream from bridge on Auburn Road in Auburn Hills, 2.8 mi upstream from Galloway Creek.
DRAINAGE AREA - 123 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - WSP 1307: 1937(M). WSP 1507: Drainage area at former site.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - May 1935 to June 1939 and February to September 1940 (published as "at Pontiac"), October 1956 to September 1982 (published as "at Auburn Heights"), water years 1983-91 (operated as a crest-stage partial-record station; published as "at Auburn Heights"), July 2001 to September 2002, water year 2003 (operated as a crest-stage partial-record station), April 2004 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 846.10 ft above NAVD 88, converted on July 9, 2020 from NGVD 29. Prior to October 1940 nonrecording gage at site 3.3 mi upstream at datum 876.01 ft above NGVD 29.
REMARKS - Some regulation by many lakes upstream from station. Flow since the 1960's has been augmented by effluent from municipal sewage-treatment plants and cooling water from industrial plants, most of which originates from sources outside the basin.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge, 2,120 ft³/s, Aug. 24, 2023, gage height, 5.98 ft, from rating curve extended above 1,300 ft³/s; maximum gage height, 6.05 ft, May 23, 2004; minimum discharge, 4.8 ft³/s, Sept. 4, 1936, observed; site then in use.
