05018000 ST. MARY CANAL AT INTAKE, NEAR BABB, MT
LOCATION - Lat 48°51'10", long 113°25'01" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, in SE 1/4 NW 1/4 NE 1/4 sec.27, T.36 N., R.14 W., Glacier County, MT, Hydrologic Unit 10010002, Blackfeet Indian Reservation, on right bank of canal 500 ft downstream from St. Mary intake structure, and 1.0 mi east of Babb.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - July 1918 to November 1951, May 1997 to current season (seasonal records only).
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Elevation of gage is 4,470 ft, referenced to the North American Vertical Datum of 1988. Prior to April 17, 1919, staff gage located at site 300 ft upstream at different elevation.
REMARKS - Canal diverts water from left bank of St. Mary River near Babb and discharges into North Fork Milk River. This water flows in the natural channel of Milk River through Canada and then back into Montana where it is used for irrigation in Milk River Valley downstream from Havre, Montana.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum daily discharge, 871 ft³/s, May 26, 27, 1936; no flow at times most seasons.
