05053000 WILD RICE RIVER NEAR ABERCROMBIE, ND
LOCATION - Lat 46°28'14", long 96°46'55" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, in sec.36, T.135 N., R.49 W., Richland County, ND, Hydrologic Unit 09020105, on right bank 400 ft. upstream from bridge on county highway, 5200 ft. (0.99 mi) upstream from rubble masonry dam which serves as control, 3.2 mi northwest of Abercrombie, and 7 mi downstream from Antelope Creek.
DRAINAGE AREA - 2,080 mi² of which 590 mi² probably is noncontributing.
REVISIONS HISTORY - WSP 1388: 1939, 1941(M). WSP 1728: Drainage area.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - DAILY DISCHARGE--May 1932 to current year. Monthly discharge only for some periods, published in WSP 1308.

DAILY GAGE HEIGHT--October 2000 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder and masonry control. Datum of gage is 898.88 ft above North American Vertical Datum (NAVD88, leveled-in as 908.88 ft by USACE, April 2017, adjusted by 10.000 ft on Oct. 1, 2023, to avoid negative gage heights) and 907.94 ft above National Geodetic Vertical Datum 1929 (NGVD29).

Previous locations and datums are as follows:

December 7, 1939, to November 24, 1952; non-recording gage at site 0.75 mi downstream at datum 907.94 ft above NGVD29.

May 1932 to December 7, 1939; non-recording gage at site 420 ft downstream at datum 902.94 ft above NGVD29.

REMARKS -

Accuracy of records for water years prior to 2014 are noted in the individual Annual Data Reports for those water years. For water years 2014 onward, records good, except for the 2020 & 2023 water years, where records were fair and for discharges below 10 ft³/s, which are fair and estimated discharges, which are poor, unless otherwise noted.

REGULATION.--Some regulation by Fish and Wildlife Service reservoirs, of which Lake Tewaukon is the largest. Some small diversions for irrigation.

EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Flood in spring of 1897 reached a stage of 37.5 ft, present site and datum, from floodmarks pointed out by local residents.
