05059000 SHEYENNE RIVER NEAR KINDRED, ND

LOCATION - Lat 46°37'54", long 97°00'01" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, in sec.33, T.137 N., R.50 W., Cass County, ND, Hydrologic Unit 09020204, on left bank 100 ft downstream from North Dakota State Highway 46 bridge crossing, 1.5 mi southeast of Kindred, and at mile 67.9.

DRAINAGE AREA - 8,800 mi² of which 5,780 mi² probably is noncontributing. including 3,800 mi² in closed basins.

REVISIONS HISTORY -

WSP 1728: Drainage area.

Discharge for the period Oct. 23, 2019 to Nov. 4, 2019, was revised on Oct. 18, 2020, by allowing discharge to be computed instead of estimated, due to a lack of evidence for a reason to estimate the discharges during this time period.

GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 926.37 ft above North American Vertical Datum 1988 (NAVD88, Survey done by USGS) and 925.55 ft above National Geodetic Vertical Datum 1929 (NGVD29).

Previous locations and datums are as follows:

October 1, 1962 to September 30, 1989, recording gage 1,500 ft. upstream, at datum of 925.55 ft above NGVD29.

July 1949 to September 30, 1962, non-recording gage 1,500 ft. upstream, at datum of 925.55 ft above NGVD29.

REMARKS -

Accuracy of records for water years prior to 2014 are noted in the individual Annual Data Reports for those water years. For water years 2014 onward, records good except for estimated discharges, which are poor, unless otherwise noted.

REGULATION.--Flow regulated to a large degree by Lake Ashtabula (station 05057500), 202 mi upstream, and several small reservoirs.

EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Spring flood in 1947 or 1948 reached a stage of 22.1 ft from floodmarks, peak flow about 3,600 ft³/s.

EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum peak flow, 6,290 ft³/s, April 27, 2011, peak stage, 21.29 ft; maximum peak stage, 22.33 ft, April 8, 1997, backwater from ice.
