05059300 SHEYENNE RIVER ABOVE SHEYENNE RIVER DIVERSION NEAR HORACE, ND
LOCATION - Lat 46°44'47", long 96°55'37" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, in sec.25, T.138 N., R.50 W., Cass County, ND, Hydrologic Unit 09020204, on right bank, 0.57 mi upstream from diversion structure, 1 mi southwest of Horace.
DRAINAGE AREA - 8,840 mi². approximately, of which about 5,780 mi² is probably noncontributing, including 3,800 mi² in closed basins.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - DAILY DISCHARGE--October 1992 to current year.

PERIOD OF RECORD.--DAILY GAGE HEIGHT--October 2000 to current year.
GAGE -

Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 890.55 ft above North American Vertical Datum 1988 (NAVD88, Survey done by USGS) and 890.00 ft above National Geodetic Vertical Datum 1929 (NGVD29).

Prior to April 7, 2014, gage located 0.47 mi downstream at same datum.

REMARKS -

Accuracy of records for water years prior to 2014 are noted in the individual Annual Data Reports for those water years. For water years 2014 onward, records good except for the 2023 water year, when record was fair.  Estimated discharges are poor, unless otherwise noted.

REGULATION.--Flow regulated to a large degree by Lake Ashtabula (station 05057500), 230 mi upstream. These records represent the total Sheyenne River flow immediately upstream from the Horace flood diversion.

EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum peak flow, 5,210 ft³/s, May 8, 1997, peak stage, 25.27 ft; maximum peak stage, 26.66 ft, March 25, 1999, from highwater mark, backwater from ice and closure of diversion channel.
