USGS Water-Year Summary 2021
LOCATION - Lat 46°51'58", long 97°06'22" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, in NE 1/4 SW 1/4 sec.10, T.139 N., R.51 W., Cass County, ND, Hydrologic Unit 09020205, mounted on the downstream side of the 160-1/2 Ave SE bridge, 3 mi. southwest of Mapleton.
DRAINAGE AREA - 1,450 mi² of which 70 mi² probably is noncontributing.
PERIOD OF RECORD - DAILY DISCHARGE--October 1958 to September 1975, March 1, 2001, to current year (seasonal records only). Record not equivalent at extreme high flows to station 05060100 that was operated from April 1944 to September 1958 (7 mi downstream) published as "at Mapleton" and March 1995 to present (9 mi downstream) published as "below Mapleton".

PERIOD OF RECORD.--DAILY GAGE HEIGHT--March 2000 to current year (seasonal records only).
GAGE - Water-stage recorder and rubble masonry dam. Datum of gage is 887.38 ft above NAVD88.  Datum was converted to NAVD88 datum using the National Geodetic Surveys VDATUM transformation tool. Prior to conversion to NAVD88 datum was published as 886.43 ft above NGVD29.

October 1958 to September 1975, recording gage above dam about 0.5 mi downstream at datum 893.53 ft above NGVD29.


Accuracy of records for water years prior to 2014 are noted in the individual Annual Data Reports for those water years. For water years 2014 onward, records good except for the 2020 water year, when record was fair.  Estimated discharges are poor, unless otherwise noted.

REGULATION.--Flow regulated by Maple River Dam since summer of 2007. The dam is located approximately 59 mi upstream with a flood storage capacity of 60,000 acre-ft.

EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum peak flow, 11,600 ft³/s, July 2, 1975, peak stage, 22.13 ft, present datum; maximum peak stage, 23.43 ft, April 1, 2006.
