LOCATION - Lat 47°16'05", long 96°47'50" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, in SE 1/4 SE 1/4 sec.19, T.144 N., R.48 W., Norman County, MN, Hydrologic Unit 09020108, on right bank 30 ft. below bridge on County Highway 25, 0.5 mi. east of Hendrum and 4 mi. upstream from mouth.
DRAINAGE AREA - 1,560 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - WSP 1728: 1958. Unpublished, 2009: 2001(M), 2002(M), 2008(M).
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - March 1944 to September 1984 and May 1985 to current year. Operated as a high-flow partial-record station October 1984 to April 1985.

Datum of the gage is 837.71 feet above North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD88) and 836.75 feet above National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929 (NGVD29)

REMARKS -

Accuracy of records for water years prior to 2014 are noted in the individual Annual Data Reports for those water years. For water years 2014 onward, records fair except for the 2020 water year, when record was good.  Estimated discharges are poor, unless otherwise noted.

REGULATION.--Large part of high flow upstream is diverted into Marsh River Basin at overflow section approximately 15 miles upstream and 3.5 mi east of Ada.  Another diversion into the Marsh River basin formed in 1947, 1.5 mi southeast of Ada and diverted water at all stages 1947-51.  This diversion was closed after 1951, except for a diverting a small, regulated flow for abatement of contamination from Ada sewage plant effluent.  Amount of this diversion not known.

 

EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum peak flow, 10,600 ft³/sec, peak stage, 33.85 ft, April 18, 1997, from measurement of discharge; backwater from Red River of the North.

REMARKS - This site is part of a statewide sediment study. The objectives of the study are to collect site specific data for streamflow, cross-sectional suspended sediment concentrations (SSC), point samples of SSC, turbidity, and water transparency at selected stream sites in Minnesota.
