05085000 FOREST RIVER AT MINTO, ND
LOCATION - Lat 48°17'10", long 97°22'11" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, in sec.31, T.156 N., R.52 W., Walsh County, ND, Hydrologic Unit 09020308, on bridge 450 ft upstream from dam in Minto, 530 ft upstream from Burlington Northern Railway bridge, and 350 ft east of U.S. Highway 81.
DRAINAGE AREA - 740 mi² of which 120 mi² probably is noncontributing.
REVISIONS HISTORY - WSP 1438: 1948-50. WSP 1728: Drainage area.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - DAILY DISCHARGE--April 1944 to current year.

PERIOD OF RECORD.--DAILY GAGE HEIGHT--October 2000 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 808.03 ft above North American Vertical Datum 1988 (NAVD88, survey by USGS) and 806.95 ft above National Geodetic Vertical Datum 1929 (NGVD29).

Previous locations and datums are as follows:

April 1944 to July 15, 1954; non-recording gage at site 400 ft upstream at datum 806.95 ft NGVD29.

REMARKS -

Accuracy of records for water years prior to 2014 are noted in the individual Annual Data Reports for those water years. For water years 2014 onward, records good except for the 2019, 2020 and 2021 water years, when records were fair.  Estimated discharges are poor, unless otherwise noted. 

Occasionally during high stages, particularly when the channel is filled with snow, overflow occurs 0.5 mi below the municipality of Forest River and bypasses the gage 3 mi south of Minto and flows into Lake Ardoch. Bypass flow is not included in computation of discharge record for station at Minto.

EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum peak flow, 16,600 ft³/s, April 18, 1950, from rating curve extended above 7,200 ft³/s on basis of contracted opening measurement of peak flow; maximum peak stage, 11.80 ft, April 18, 1950, from floodmark.
