LOCATION - Lat 44°17'49", long 94°26'01" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, in NW 1/4 NW 1/4 sec.34, T.110 N., R.30 W., Nicollet County, MN, Hydrologic Unit 07020007, at bridge on US Highway 14, at New Ulm, and 6.1 miles upstream from Cottonwood River, site measured 6 miles downstream of gage.
DRAINAGE AREA - 9,590 mi².
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - September 2016 to current year. Prior to 2016, operated as continuous site from 1968 to 1976. 
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 817.735 ft above sea level (NAVD 88).
REMARKS - Flow regulated by Big Stone Lake since Apr. 17, 1937, Lac qui Parle since Jan. 1938, and Marsh Lake since Nov. 1, 1939.

Records good except those for estimated daily discharge, which are poor.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge, 58,500 ft³/s, gage height, 30.65 ft., April 15, 1969.
