USGS Water-Year Summary 2023

Gage Address: N 8044 Co. Rd. F River Falls, WI 54022 (715)426-5765
DRAINAGE AREA - 165 mi². from recent USGS topographic maps.
REVISIONS HISTORY - WSP 1308. WDR WI-99-1: Drainage area. WDR WI-02-1: Statistics table.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - October 1916 to September 1921 (monthly discharge for some periods published in WSP 1308), October 1998 to September 1999, July 2002 to current year. Monthly average data were published outside the period of daily data collection.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder and crest-stage gages. Elevation of gage is 690 ft above NAVD of 1988, from topographic map. Prior to Oct. 1, 1921, recording gage near present site at different datum. Prior to Apr. 09, 2012, recording gage 275 ft downstream at present datum.
REMARKS - Records are considered good except for estimated daily discharges which are poor and other periods as noted. For records status prior to October 1, 2013, see remarks printed in annual water-data reports. The river is partially regulated by two hydro-electric plants located 7 miles upstream in the town of River Falls. High flow events at this gage are characterized by rapid rise and fall, which make it challenging to be present during high flow conditions. Gage-height telemeter at station.
WATER-QUALITY RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - October 2012 to September 30, 2015.
INSTRUMENTATION - Water-quality sampler October 2012 to September 30, 2015. Chemical analyses by the Water and Environmental Analysis Lab at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
REMARKS - Records are considered good unless they are estimated, in which case they are poor. For the 2015 water year, sample coverage of events was very good, with a few small events going unsampled and therefore estimated. Loads based on good discharge data without estimated concentrations should be considered good, while loads based on poor discharge data or that which incorporates many estimated concentrations should be considered poor.
