LOCATION - Lat 41°44'00.78", long 88°20'00.01" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, in NW 1/4 NW 1/4 SE 1/4 sec.33, T.38 N., R.8 E., Kane County, IL, Hydrologic Unit 07120007, on left bank at dam 0.4 mi upstream from Mill Street bridge in Montgomery, 3.2 mi upstream from Waubansee Creek, and at mile 45.9.
DRAINAGE AREA - 1,732 mi².

GAGE - Water-stage recorder, satellite telemeter, crest-stage gage, and concrete dam. Datum of gage is 603.20 ft. above NAVD of 1988.
REMARKS - Flow regulated by Stratton Lock & Dam in McHenry, 51.8 miles upstream, and at times by flood gate at dam in Algonquin, 35.7 miles upstream. Some cities upstream use Fox River for drinking water supply. Accuracy of records is discussed in the annual Station Analysis archived at the USGS IL Water Science Center.
