LOCATION - Lat 39°35'00.5", long 88°24'49.7" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, in NW 1/4 SW 1/4 sec.10, T.13 N., R.7 E., Coles County, IL, Hydrologic Unit 07140201, on right upstream side of bridge in Cooks Mills, 3.8 mi downstream from Flat Branch, and at mile 238.1.
DRAINAGE AREA - 473 mi².

GAGE - Water-stage recorder, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers satellite telemeter, and crest-stage gage. Datum of gage is 616.89 ft above NAVD of 1988. Prior to July 30, 1981, at site 200 ft downstream at same datum.
REMARKS - Occasional cropland irrigation water withdrawals approximately 3.4 miles upstream from gage. Accuracy of records is discussed in the annual Station Analysis archived at the USGS IL Water Science Center.
