LOCATION - Lat 37°53'29", long 89°01'10" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, in NW 1/4 NW 1/4 NW 1/4 sec.29, T.7 S., R.2 E., Franklin County, IL, Hydrologic Unit 07140106, on left bank on State Highway 149 at Plumfield, 2.7 mi downstream from Middle Fork Muddy River, and at mile 85.8.

DRAINAGE AREA - 792 mi².

Oct. 1, 1974 to Sept. 30, 1991, auxiliary water-stage recorder at pumping plant at Zeigler, 4.8 mi downstream at datum 353.24 ft above NGVD of 1929 (352.92 ft NAVD 1988). Feb. 14, 1937 to Sept. 30, 1974, auxiliary nonrecording gage at site 0.8 mi upstream at datum 358.24 ft. NGVD of 1929.

Since Rend Lake dam: Maximum discharge, 14,200 ft³/s, May 1, 1996, gage height, 31.83 ft; maximum gage height, 34.68 ft, May 3, 2011, discharge, 12,400 ft³/s; minimum daily discharge, 6.8 ft³/s, Oct. 13, 1970.
