06307600 HANGING WOMAN CREEK NEAR BIRNEY, MT
LOCATION - Lat 45°17'56.63", long 106°30'29.40" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, in NW 1/4 SE 1/4 SE 1/4 sec.19, T.6 S., R.43 E., Rosebud County, MT, Hydrologic Unit 10090101, on right bank immediately downstream from bridge on Birney-Otter Road, 1.9 mi south of Birney, 0.7 mi downstream from East Fork, and at river mile 3.8.
DRAINAGE AREA - 467 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - Water Data Report MT-82-1: 1980, maximum discharge. Peak discharge for 2017 water year was revised on July 25, 2019, based on audit following 2019 database migration of peak flow file. 
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - September 1973 to September 1984, October 1985 to September 1995, October 2003 to September 2017 (discontinued).
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Elevation of gage is 3,150 ft, referenced to the North American Vertical Datum of 1988.
REMARKS -
10-12-2016 to 09-30-2017: records are good, except estimated records are poor.
10-21-2015 to 10-11-2016: records are good, except estimated records are poor.
10-01-2014 to 10-20-2015: records are fair, except estimated records are poor.

Diversions for irrigation of about 1,240 acres upstream from the station.

PERIOD OF DAILY RECORD -
SPECIFIC CONDUCTANCE: November 1980 to July 1983, October 1985 to September 1987 (observer daily 
samples); May 2004 to October 2106 (discontinued) (seasonal records).
INSTRUMENTATION - A specific conductance probe was installed May 19, 2004.

SPECIFIC CONDUCTANCE
11-20-2015 to 11-08-2016 (seasonal record):  records are excellent, except records from Mar. 25 to
Apr. 20, May 7-25, June 18-23, Aug. 21-23, Sept. 24 to Oct. 12, and Oct. 20 to Nov. 6, which are 
good; and records from Apr. 21-26, and Nov. 7, 8, which are fair. 

03-26-2015 to 11-19-2015 (seasonal record):  records are excellent, except records from  Mar. 30 to
Apr. 8, Apr. 26 to May 2, May 12-22, June 3-10, 19, and Aug. 2-19 are good; records from Apr. 9-16,
May 3-7, 23-27, June 11-15, and June 20 to July 16 are fair; and records from Apr. 10-23, and 
June 16-17 are poor.

04-01-2014 to 10-31-2014 (seasonal record): records are excellent, except for Apr. 12-17, May 8-15, 
18-23, June 1-4, 13-17, June 23 to July 4, 12-20, July 27 to Aug. 4, Aug. 15-19, Sept. 9-23, and 
Oct. 9-10 are good; records from Apr. 18-23, May 24-28, July 5-8, July 21-23 are fair; and records 
from Apr. 24-28 are poor.



   
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF DAILY RECORD -
SPECIFIC CONDUCTANCE: Maximum, 5,860 microsiemens per centimeter (uS/cm) at 25.0°C, May 22, 2011; 
minimum, 263 uS/cm at 25.0°C, Feb. 27, 1986.
EXTREMES FOR CURRENT YEAR - SPECIFIC CONDUCTANCE: During period of seasonal operation, maximum recorded, 3,050 uS/cm at 25.0°C, June 7, 2013; minimum recorded, 837 uS/cm at 25.0°C, July 29, 2013.
