Water-Year Summary for Site 06339500
Revisions: The maximum discharge and gage height for water year 1943 was revised on March 11, 2024, based on documentation review of HWM and rating extension used. Previously published in the Manuscript section "Extremes Outside Period of Record" and WSP 1679.
Previous locations and datums are as follows:
May 29, 1903 to March 23, 1905; Chain gage at site 4 miles downstream at different datum.
March 25, 1905 to September 30, 1924; Chain gage at site 3 miles upstream at different datum.
April 24 to October 27, 1943; Staff gage at present site and datum.
October 28, 1943 to May 1946; Wire weight gage at present site and datum.
From 1903 to 1924 station was published as Knife River at or near Broncho, ND.
Accuracy of records for water years prior to 2014 are noted in the individual Annual Data Reports for those water years. For water years 2014 onward, records good except for estimated discharges, which are poor, unless otherwise noted.
Peak streamflow data from 1903 to 1924 was added March 2024 after review of the available information. Due to the low accuracy of the highwater data during this timeframe, the momentary, or instantaneous, peaks were never published. The daily mean values were of acceptable uncertainty as determined in Water Supply Paper 1309. The annual peak values from water years pre 1943 were added as maximum daily mean values and were coded as such.
