LOCATION - Lat 45°11'52", long 102°09'22" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, in NW 1/4 NW 1/4 sec.10, T.14 N., R.16 E., Perkins County, SD, Hydrologic Unit 10130306, on upstream side of State Highway 73 bridge, 3.1 mi downstream from Rabbit Creek, and 13.5 mi northwest of Faith.
DRAINAGE AREA - 2,592 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - WSP 1176: 1944. WSP 1279: 1946(M). WDR SD-10-1: Drainage area. The maximum gage height for the 2018WY was revised on July 7, 2020.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - March 1943 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 2,240.16 ft above NAVD of 1988. Prior to Oct. 5, 1949, nonrecording gage 0.3 mi upstream. Oct. 5, 1949, to Jul. 16, 1959, nonrecording gage and crest-stage gage at old Highway bridge 50 ft downstream; both at datum 1.0 ft higher. Jul. 17, 1959, to Sept. 9, 2016, water-stage-recorder and crest-stage gage at old Highway bridge 50 ft downstream of present site at same datum.
REMARKS - Accuracy of records for water years prior to 2014 are noted in the individual Annual Data Reports for those water years. For water years 2014 onward, records good except for Oct. 15, 2020 to Aug. 12, 2021, Oct. 15, 2021 to Apr. 27, 2022, which are fair and estimated discharges, which are poor, unless otherwise noted. Satellite data-collection platform at station.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge, 26,000 ft³/s, from rating curve extended above 12,000 ft³/s, on basis of slope-area discharge measurement of peak flow, Apr. 9, 1944, gage height, 20.90 ft; minimum daily discharge, 0.00 ft³/s, Dec. 15, 1943, no flow at times in most years.
