LOCATION - Lat 45°20'35.24", long 100°36'48.20" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, T16N R29E S18, Dewey County, SD, Hydrologic Unit 10130306, on downstream side of BIA high-way 7, 110 ft downstream of old railroad bridge, 0.5 miles downstream from Virgin Creek, and 0.75 mile north of Promise, SD. 
DRAINAGE AREA - 5,240 mi² of which 17 mi² probably is noncontributing.  
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD -

Daily discharge from January 1933 to September 1958.

Daily gage height from January 2021 to current year.

GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 1,597.77 ft above NAVD88.
REMARKS -

The previous gage site with same station number was located 3000 ft. downstream but was discontinued in 1958 due to the filling of Lake Oahe.

Stage is unregulated.

EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD -

Pre 1958 at old station location and local assumed datum:

Maximum discharge, 36,900 cubic feet per second, Apr. 5, 1952, gage height, 24.16 ft.  Maximum gage height, 24.40 ft, Mar. 25, 1947. 

Post 2021 at new station location and local assumed datum:

Maximum gage height, 19.91 ft, April 12, 2023; minimum gage height, 7.20 ft, March 24, 2024.
