LOCATION - Lat 43°34'53", long 103°28'34" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, in NE 1/4 SW 1/4 SW 1/4 sec.25, T.5 S., R.5 E., Custer County, SD, Hydrologic Unit 10120109, on right bank 840 ft downstream of Lookout Point Trailhead, 7.0 mi upstream of Cottonwood Creek north, 2.0 mi north of Wind Cave National Park Headquarters.
DRAINAGE AREA - 45.6 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - WDR SD-10-1: Drainage area.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - October 1990 to current year. Partial monthly discharge October 1990.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 4,109.34 ft above NAVD88.
REMARKS - Accuracy of records for water years prior to 2014 are noted in the individual Annual Data Reports for those water years. For years 2014 onward, records good except for Nov. 15, 2015 to Feb. 29, 2016 and Oct. 19, 2021 to Nov. 14, 2023, which are fair, and estimated discharges, which are poor, unless otherwise noted. Minor diversions for irrigation of hay meadows and domestic use may occur upstream of the gage. Satellite data-collection platform at station.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge, 140 ft³/s, Aug. 13, 2013, from rating curve extended above 60 ft³/s, on basis of slope-area measurement of peak flow, gage height, 10.05 ft, from floodmarks; minimum daily discharge, 0.00 ft³/s, Sept. 8, 2006, no flow for some days in 2006-2008.
