LOCATION - Lat 43°49'41", long 103°11'44" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, in NE 1/4 SW 1/4 SW 1/4 sec.32, T.2 S., R.8 E., Custer County, SD, Hydrologic Unit 10120109, on right bank 50 ft downstream from Chicago and North Western Transportation Company bridge, 0.8 mi south of Hermosa, and 2.9 mi downstream from Grace Coolidge Creek.
DRAINAGE AREA - 169 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - WDR SD-10-1: Drainage area. Discharge for the period Nov. 27, 2018, to Jan. 31, 2019, was revised on Feb. 18, 2020, based on changes to the shifted stage-discharge rating.

Nonrecording gage, Aug. to Dec. 1903, at site 50 ft upstream, July 7, 1949, to Nov. 2, 1950, at site 0.5 mi upstream, Nov. 3, 1950, to Dec. 6, 1961, at site 170 ft downstream, all at different datum. Dec. 7, 1961, to June 10, 1972, water-stage recorder (destroyed by flood), and June 11, 1972, to Aug. 28, 1972, nonrecording gage at site 80 ft downstream at present datum.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge 21,400 ft³/s, from rating curve extended above 2,800 ft³/s, on basis of contracted opening and flow-over railroad embankment measurement of peak flow; June 10, 1972, gage height, 17.72 ft, from floodmark; minimum daily discharge, 0.00 ft³/s, Oct. 6, 1954, no flow at times in 1954-57, 1959, and 1989.
