LOCATION - Lat 44°01'36.5", long 103°06'04" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, in NE 1/4 SE 1/4 SW 1/4 sec.24, T.1 N., R.8 E., Pennington County, SD, Hydrologic Unit 10120110, gage is located on the right bank 1.5 miles downstream of the bridge on Anderson Road and 1.0 miles upstream of the Rapid City Water Reclamation Facility. 
DRAINAGE AREA - 449.39 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - Revisions: Discharge measurement gage height for measurement number 39 on April 26, 2019 was revised on Sept. 16, 2020 due to gage datum correction.

GAGE - Water stage recorder and crest-stage gage. Datum of gage is 3,003.24 ft. above NAVD of 1988.

For water years 2014 onward, records good except for estimated discharges, which are poor, unless otherwise noted. Flow regulated by Pactola Dam 40.9 mi upstream since Aug. 22, 1956. Reservoir filled from August 1956 to June 1963. Diversions for irrigation of about 7,000 acres upstream from station. Satellite data-collection platform at station.
