LOCATION - Lat 44°01'25.2", long 103°05'43.4" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, in NW 1/4 NE 1/4 NE 1/4 sec.25, T.1 N., R.8 E., Pennington County, SD, Hydrologic Unit 10120110, on right bank 120 ft downstream from sewage treatment plant effluent and 6.7 mi southeast of Rapid City.
DRAINAGE AREA - 456 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - WDR SD-10-1: Drainage area.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - Oct. 1981 to Dec. 2016 (discontinued).
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 3,000.65 ft above NAVD of 1988.
REMARKS - For Oct. 01, 2013 to Sept. 30, 2016, records good except those for estimated daily discharges, which are poor. Flow regulated by Pactola Dam 40.9 mi upstream since Aug. 22, 1956. Reservoir filled from Aug. 1956 to Jun. 1963. Diversions for irrigation of about 7,000 acres upstream from station. Satellite data-collection platform at station. Water temperature and specific conductance measured with each discharge measurement.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge, 2,260 ft³/s, June 3, 1997, gage height 10.05 ft, from rating curve extended above 1,200 ft³/s.
