LOCATION - Lat 44°44'35", long 102°03'11" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, in SW 1/4 NE 1/4 sec.16, T.9 N., R.17 E., Meade County, SD, Hydrologic Unit 10120113, on the right upstream wingwall of bridge on State Highway 73, 0.2 mi. downstream from small right bank tributary, 6.2 mi. downsteam from Red Owl Creek, and 11 mi. northeast of Plainview.
DRAINAGE AREA - 1,209 mi². approximately.
REVISIONS HISTORY - WDR SD-85-1: Location and datum.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - October 1945 to September 2005, October 2007 to September 2008, December 2020 to present. Monthly discharge only for October and November 1945, published in WSP 1309.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder and crest stage gage. Datum of gage is 2,158.24 ft above NAVD of 1988.  Prior to Dec. 3, 2020, datum of gage was published as 2,157.91 ft above sea level. Prior to June 8, 1948, nonrecording gage at same site and datum. Prior to Sept. 27, 1985, recording gage at site 100 ft downstream at same datum.
REMARKS - Accuracy of records for water years prior to 2014 are noted in the individual Annual Data Reports for those water years.  For water years 2014 onward, records good except those for Dec. 4, 2020 to Oct. 14, 2021, which are fair and Oct. 27 to Jun. 13 which are poor, and those for estimated discharges, which are also poor. Satellite data-collection platform at station.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge, 17,500 ft³/s, Apr. 1, 1952, gage height, 22.63 ft.
