LOCATION - Lat 43°41'38", long 101°55'56" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, in SW 1/4 SE 1/4 sec.14, T.43 N., R.18 E., Jackson County, SD, Hydrologic Unit 10140202, on left bank downstream side of bridge on U.S. Highway 44, 9.5 mi downstream from Potato Creek, 3.9 mi southeast of Interior, and 7.5 mi downstream from Pennington-Jackson County lines.
DRAINAGE AREA - 4,101 mi² of which 7 mi² probably is noncontributing.
REVISIONS HISTORY - WDR SD-10-1: Drainage area. Discharge for the period Mar. 7, 2018 to Mar. 15, 2018, was revised on Jun. 22, 2020, based on hydrographic comparison with downstream site 06447000 White River near Kadoka, SD.  Discharge for the period Jan. 14, 2023 to Mar. 18, 2023, was revised on Jan. 30, 2024, based on hydrographic comparison with downstream site 06447000 White River near Kadoka, SD.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - June 1904 to November 1906, August 1911 to September 1918, August 1928 to June 1932. Monthly discharges only for some periods, published in WSP 1309. September 1939 to September 1942 and October 2002 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder and crest-stage gage. Datum of the gage is 2,290.21 ft. above the North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD88). Prior to conversion to NAVD 88, datum of gage was 2,300 ft above NGVD of 1929, from topographic map. Nonrecording gage at different site and datum, Jun. 24, 1904, to Nov. 6, 1906, Aug. 24, 1911, to Sept. 30, 1918, Aug. 9, 1928, to Jun. 30, 1932, and Sept. 24, 1939, to Sept. 30, 1942.
REMARKS - Accuracy of records for water years prior to 2014 are noted in the individual Annual Data Reports for those water years. For water years 2014 onward, records good except for Oct. 1, 2014 to Sept. 30, 2017, which are fair and estimated discharges, which are poor, unless otherwise noted. Satellite data-collection platform at station.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge, 17,100 ft³/s, May 1, 1942, from rating curve extended above 7,100 ft³/s, gage height, 12.40 ft, at site and datum then in use; maximum gage height, 16.08 ft, May 22, 2019; no flow at times in some years.
