LOCATION - Lat 43°06'02.5", long 101°13'54.5" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, in NE 1/4 NW 1/4 sec.17, T.36 N., R.33 W., Bennett County, SD, Hydrologic Unit 10140203, on left bank downstream side of highway culvert, 0.3 mi downstream from small right-bank tributary, 10.8 mi southeast of Vetal, and 15.3 mi upstream from Spring Creek.
DRAINAGE AREA - 607 mi² of which 36 mi² probably is noncontributing.
REVISIONS HISTORY - WDR SD-10-1: Drainage area.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - Aug. 1959 to current year. Prior to Oct. 1965, published as South Fork White River near Vetal.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder and crest-stage gage. Datum of gage 2,781.48 ft above NAVD88. Prior to conversion to NAVD88, datum was published 2,780.69 ft above NGVD29.  Prior to Nov. 14, 1959, nonrecording gage at same site and datum, 2,780.69 ft above NGVD29.
REMARKS - Accuracy of records for water years prior to 2014 are noted in the individual Annual Data Reports for those water years. For water years 2014 onward, records good except for  Oct. 1, 2014 to July 9, 2015, Apr 5 to Oct. 8, 2019 and Oct. 6, 2021 to Jul. 21, 2022 which are fair, Mar. 24 to Apr. 4, 2019 and Oct. 24, 2020 to Oct. 6, 2021 and estimated discharges, which are poor, unless otherwise noted. Some small diversions for irrigation and some storage in several small lakes above station. Satellite data-collection platform at station.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge, 3,540 ft³/s, May 16, 1991 and Mar. 24, 2019 from rating curve extended above 1,000 ft³/s on basis of slope-area measurement of peak flow; gage height, 12.53 ft.
