06450500 LITTLE WHITE RIVER BELOW WHITE RIVER, SD
LOCATION - Lat 43°36'05", long 100°44'58" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, in SW 1/4 NW 1/4 sec.23, T.42 N., R.29 W., Mellette County, SD, Hydrologic Unit 10140203, on left bank at downstream side of bridge on U.S. Highway 83, 1.3 mi downstream from Pine Creek, and 2.0 mi north of town of White River.
DRAINAGE AREA - 1,549 mi² of which 54 mi² probably is noncontributing.
REVISIONS HISTORY - WDR SD-10-1: Drainage area.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - October 1949 to current year. Prior to October 1965, published as South Fork White River below White River.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder and crest-stage gage.  Datum of gage is 1,914.19 ft above NAVD88. Prior to conversion to NAVD 88, datum was published as 1,912.78 ft above NGVD29. Prior to June 8, 1968, gage located at site 0.8 mi downstream at datum 1,908.28 ft above NGVD29.
REMARKS - Accuracy of records for water years prior to 2014 are noted in the individual Annual Data Reports for those water years. For water years 2014 onward, records good except those for Oct. 1, 2013 to Sept. 30, 2014, Oct. 20-28, 2014, May 10, 2015 to June 26, 2015, May 29, 2016 to Sept. 30, 2016, and Mar. 15, 2019 to Aug. 20, 2020 which are fair and those for Oct. 1, 2021 to Sept. 30, 2022 and estimated discharges, which are poor. Diurnal fluctuations caused by small power plant 2.2 mi upstream. Several small diversions for irrigation and some storage in several small lakes above station. Satellite data-collection platform at station.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge, 13,700 ft³/s, June 12, 1967, gage height, 10.02 ft, site and datum then in use; maximum gage height, 15.46 ft, present site and datum, from floodmarks; minimum daily discharge, 7.0 ft³/s, July 31, Aug. 31, and Sept. 1, 1952.
