LOCATION - Lat 45°31'09.2", long 98°34'37.8" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, in SW 1/4 SW 1/4 SW 1/4 sec.29, T.124 N., R.64 W., Brown County, SD, Hydrologic Unit 10160003, on left bank at downstream side of bridge on county road, 1.9 mi downstream of Richmond Lake Dam, 5.9 mi northwest of Aberdeen, and 16.3 mi upstream from mouth.
DRAINAGE AREA - 173 mi² of which 23 mi² probably is noncontributing.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - October 1999 to current year. Prior to October 1999 (March and April 1997), miscellaneous discharge measurements only made 0.3 mi downstream.
GAGE -

Water-stage recorder and crest-stage gage. Datum of gage is 1,319.13 feet above the North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD88) and 1,318.17 feet above the National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929 (NGVD29).

REMARKS - Accuracy of records for water years prior to 2014 are noted in the individual Annual Data Reports for those water years. For water years 2014 onward, records fair except those for estimated discharges, which are poor. Richmond Lake is formed by a rolled earth dam with a concrete spillway. The reservoir has no control structure and a total storage of 11,500 acre-ft. Satellite data-collection platform at station.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge (observed), 1,670 ft³/s, Mar. 29, 1997, gage height (observed), 9.44 ft, (backwater from ice, different site and same datum).
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Minimum daily discharge, 0.00 ft³/s, June 30, 2002, no flow at times in some years.
