LOCATION - Lat 41°46'43", long 100°31'31" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, in SE 1/4 NW 1/4 sec.23, T.21 N., R.28 W., Thomas County, NE, Hydrologic Unit 10210002, on right bank 1,400 ft downstream from bridge on U.S. Highway 83, 2 mi upstream from boundary of Nebraska National Forest (Bessey Division), 14 mi South of Thedford, and at mile 32.9.
DRAINAGE AREA - 966 mi² of which 936 mi² probably is noncontributing.
REVISIONS HISTORY - WDR NE-94-1: Drainage area.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - October 1966 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder with satellite telemetry. Datum of gage is 2,798.18 ft above North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD1988). Sept. 24, 2015 to July 8, 2020, datum of gage was 2,800.18 ft above North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD1988).  Jan. 13, 2004 to Sept. 24, 2015, datum of gage was 2,799.13 ft above National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929 (NGVD1929); prior to Jan.13, 2004 at datum 2,800.13 ft above NGVD1929.
REMARKS - Accuracy of records for water years prior to 2014 are noted in the individual Annual Data Reports for those water years. For water years 2014 onward, records good except for estimated daily discharges, which are poor, unless otherwise noted.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge, 1,160 ft³/s, August 23, 1983, gage height, 3.83 ft, datum then in use. Maximum gage height, 5.10 ft, December 18, 1983, backwater from ice, datum then in use.

PERIOD OF DAILY RECORD - WATER TEMPERATURE: October 2002 to September 2003, March 2012 to current year.
INSTRUMENTATION - Since 2012, an H-377 thermistor temperature probe used to collect water temperature.
REMARKS - Accuracy of records for water years prior to 2014 are noted in the individual Annual Data Reports for those water years. For water years 2014 onward, water temperature records excellent, unless otherwise noted. Interruptions in the record, when present, are primarily the result of instrument malfunction.
