LOCATION - Lat 39°27'16.21", long 98°06'34.46" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, in NE 1/4 sec.09, T.7 S., R.7 W., Mitchell County, KS, Hydrologic Unit 10260015, on right bank at south edge of Beloit, and at mile 145.6.
DRAINAGE AREA - 5,440 mi². (from National Weather Service).
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - April 1929 to September 1965. July 2012 to current year. Records for April 1895 to June 1897, published in 18th and 19th Annual Reports, Part 4, have been found to be unreliable and should not be used. Fragmentary gage-height records collected near this site since Jan. 8, 1905, are contained in reports of U. S. Weather Bureau and Kansas Water Commission.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 1339.816 ft above sea level NAVD88. June 10, 1958 to Sept. 30, 1965, digital water-stage recorder located 8.5 miles downstream, at a datum 11.68 ft lower. Apr. 14, 1929 to June 9, 1958, supplementary water-stage recorders and chain or wire-weight gages, at the present site and datum 2.51 ft higher. Apr. 22, 1895 to June 30, 1897, low-water staff and a painted scale on the bridge pier, at present site and datum unknown.
REMARKS - Flow mostly regulated by the Beloit city Water Plan dam located 100 ft upstream, and since 1967 by Wacanda Lake (station 06874200), which is in turn moderately regulated since 1955 by Kirwin Reservoir (station 06871700), and since 1956 by Webster Reservoir (station 06873100). There are large diversions for irrigation downstream from Kirwin and Webster Reservoirs and many small diversions upstream from Waconda Lake. Satellite telemeter at station.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD -

Maximum discharge for period of record 125,000 cfs on Jul. 13, 1951, gage height 39.30 ft. at site and datum then in use.

Maximum discharge since gage was re-established in July of 2012 is 6150 cfs on Jun. 27, 2020, gage height 22.40 ft., gage datum.
