06885500 BLACK VERMILLION RIVER NEAR FRANKFORT, KS
LOCATION - Lat 39°40'55", long 96°26'33" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, in SE 1/4 SW 1/4 sec.20, T.4 S., R.9 E., Marshall County, KS, Hydrologic Unit 10270205, on right bank at downstream side of county highway bridge, 0.2 mi downstream from Robidoux Creek, 2.2 mi southwest of Frankfort, and at mile 19.9.
DRAINAGE AREA - 410 mi².
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - October 1953 to current year. Monthly discharge only for October to December 1953, published in WSP 1730.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 1,106.91 ft above NGVD of 1929. Prior to May 13, 1954, nonrecording gage at same site and datum.
REMARKS - Satellite telemeter at station.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Flood of Aug. 3, 1948, reached a stage of 30.2 ft, present site and datum, from floodmarks. Flood in June 1951 reached a stage of 28.6 ft, present site and datum, from floodmarks, discharge, 30,400 ft³/s, based on contracted-opening measurement of peak flow.

INSTRUMENTATION - Multiparameter water-quality monitor.
REMARKS - Records good. Interruptions in record are due to ice conditions, malfunction of the recording instrument or sensors, or during days of no streamflow. Instruments used to measure turbidity conform to ISO 7027 standards and were made using Yellow Springs Instrument (YSI) 6136 sensor.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF DAILY RECORD - SPECIFIC CONDUCTANCE: Maximum, 857 microsiemens/cm, Dec. 23, 2008; minimum, 111 microsiemens/cm, Sept. 14, 2010. WATER TEMPERATURE: Maximum, 32.3°C, Aug. 9, 2010; minimum, -0.1°C, Dec. 7, 2008. TURBIDITY (YSI 6136 sensor): Maximum, >1,350 FNU, June 25, 2009; minimum, 0.7 FNU, Dec. 23, 2008.
