LOCATION - Lat 40°43'28", long 93°56'17" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, in SW 1/4 SW 1/4 SW 1/4 sec.35, T.69 N., R.27 W., Decatur County, IA, Hydrologic Unit 10280102, at bridge on County Highway R18, 5.5 mi west of Decatur City, 1.25 mi downstream from West Elk Creek, and 5.8 mi upstream from mouth.
DRAINAGE AREA - 52.5 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - Revisions: The maximum discharge and stage for water years 2012 to 2019 were revised on Jan. 31, 2020, based on revision of levels.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - Discharge records from October 1967 to September 1994; annual maximum discharge, water years 1995 to current year.
GAGE - Crest-stage gage. Datum of gage is 924.70 ft above National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929. Prior to October 1, 1974, at datum 10.00 ft higher.
REMARKS - Records good except for estimated daily discharges, which are poor.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Flood of June 14, 1967, reached a stage of 18.35 ft, datum in use prior to October 1, 1974, discharge 17,800 ft³/s, estimated from rating curve extended above 5,300 ft³/s on basis of step-backwater computation.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge, 32,800 ft³/s, July 5, 1993, gage height, 29.93 ft; maximum gage height, 31.47 ft, May 6, 2007.
