LOCATION - Lat 37°37'06", long 103°35'35" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, in NE 1/4 SE 1/4 sec.10, T.28 S., R.55 W., Las Animas County, CO, Hydrologic Unit 11020010, on left bank at Rock Crossing, 1.4 mi upstream from Minnie Canyon, 2.2 mi downstream from Beaty Canyon, and 17 mi southeast of Timpas.
DRAINAGE AREA - 2,758 mi² of which 11.8 mi² probably is noncontributing.
REVISIONS HISTORY - WDR CO-87-1: 1984-86 (M). WDR-US-2011: Drainage area.
PERIOD OF RECORD - June 1983 to September 2004, October 2004 to current year (seasonal records only).
GAGE - Water-stage recorder with satellite telemetry and crest-stage gage. Elevation of gage is 4,350 ft above NGVD of 1929, from topographic map. June 1, 1983 to July 17, 1985, at site 500 ft downstream at same datum.
REMARKS - Water year 2014; records poor. Water year 2015; no estimated daily discharges. Records fair except for the period Apr. 10-29, and flows above 725 ft³/s, which are poor. Water year 2016; no estimated daily discharges. Records fair except for flows above 725 ft³/s, which are poor. Water year 2017; no estimated daily discharges. Records good except for the period Sept. 13-30, which is fair, and flows above 2,230 ft³/s, which are poor. Water year 2018; no estimated daily discharges. Natural flow of stream affected by storage reservoirs, diversions for irrigation and municipal use, groundwater withdrawals, return flows from irrigated areas, and flows from sewage-treatment plants. Peak flows are regulated to some extent by Trinidad Lake (station 07124400) 92 mi upstream.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge, 11,400 ft³/s, July 9, 1992, from slope-area measurement of peak flow, gage height, 17.90 ft, from floodmarks.
