LOCATION - Lat 37°47'45.70", long 97°00'51.56" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, in sec.08, T.26 S., R.4 E., Butler County, KS, Hydrologic Unit 11030017, on right bank at downstream side of bridge on Kansas Highway 254, 0.5 mi west of Towanda, 2.4 mi downstream from West Branch, and at mile 17.5.
DRAINAGE AREA - 426 mi².
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - Annual maximum, water years 1960-61. October 1961 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 1,232.17 ft. above mean sea level. (NAVD88, est. Mar. 3, 2021) Previous datum of gage was 1,231.47 ft above NGVD of 1929 (levels by Kansas State Highway Commission). Prior to Oct. 1, 1961, crest-stage gage at same site at datum 5.22 ft higher.
REMARKS - Satellite telemeter at station.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Flood of April 1944 reached a stage of 28.6 ft from floodmark.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Flood of June 8, 1979 reached a stage of 29.73 ft, discharge 58,400 cfs.

Flood of Oct. 10, 1985 reached a stage of 28.21 ft, discharge 41,600 cfs.

Flood of Nov. 1, 1998 reached a stage of 30.54 ft, discharge 80,600 cfs.
