LOCATION - Lat 36°48'54", long 98°38'52" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, in SW 1/4 SW 1/4 sec.18, T.27 N., R.13 W., Woods County, OK, Hydrologic Unit 11060002, at bridge on U.S. Highway 281, 1.0 mi northeast of Alva, 23.0 mi upstream from Medicine Lodge River, and at mile 141.0.
DRAINAGE AREA - 982 mi². from automated delineation using 10-meter National Elevation Dataset digital elevation model data dated 10/01/2006 and Watershed Boundary Dataset dated 10/01/2006, using Albers Equal-Area Projection, North American Datum 1983.
REVISIONS HISTORY - WDR 2012: Drainage area. WDR 2018: Gage height and discharge for the period August 2, 2016, to April 4, 2018, were revised on August 15, 2018, based on changes to the gage datum.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - April 1904 to December 1905 (gage heights only), October 1937 to September 1951, monthly discharge only for some periods, published in WSP 1311. Occasional low-flow measurements water years 1952-54, 1977-79. October 1979 to current year.
GAGE - Water stage recorder. Datum of gage is 1292.74 feet above NAVD of 1988. The NAVD of 1988 datum was determined by a Level II GNSS survey (Reference Frame NAD_83(2011) (EPOCH:2010.0000) ITRF2014 (EPOCH:2022.5914) (GEOID18) by USGS on 8/22/2022 and tied to RM-7. Prior to 8/22/2022 the datum of gage was 1,292.04 ft above NGVD of 1929. From September 1951 to February 1938, water stage recorder at present site and at datum 5.00 ft higher. December From December 1905 to April 1904, chain gage at site 0.8 mi upstream at different datum.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD PRIOR TO REGULATION - Maximum discharge for period of record 27,000 ft³/s, Oct. 23, 1941, from rating curve extended above 13,000 ft³/s. No flow in several years 1939-48.
AVERAGE DISCHARGE FOR PERIOD PRIOR TO REGULATION - Water years 1938-51, 158 ft³/s.
