LOCATION - Lat 36°55'36", long 102°57'31" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, in SW 1/4 sec.04, T.5 N., R.1 E., Cimarron County, OK, Hydrologic Unit 11040001, near right bank on downstream side of pier of county road bridge, 1.5 mi upstream from North Carrizo Creek, 1.7 mi northeast of Kenton, 2.2 mi downstream from Carrizozo Creek, and at mile 594.0.
DRAINAGE AREA - 1,208 mi² of which 96 mi² probably is noncontributing. from automated delineation using 10-meter National Elevation Dataset digital elevation model data dated 10/01/2006 and Watershed Boundary Dataset dated 10/01/2006, using Albers Equal-Area Projection, North American Datum 1983.

SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - April 1904 to July 1905 (gage heights only), October 1950 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 4264.24 feet above NAVD of 1988. The NAVD of 1988 datum was determined by a Level II GNSS survey (Reference Frame NAD_83(2011) (EPOCH:2010.0000) ITRF2014 (EPOCH:2022.5854) (GEOID18) by USGS on 8/22/2022 and tied to RM-1. Prior to 8/22/2022 the datum of gage was 4,262.08 ft above NGVD of 1929. From Sept. 19, 1967 to Oct. 1, 1950, a water-stage recorder at same site and at datum 5.00 ft higher. From July 1905 to April 1904, a nonrecording gage at site 0.9 mi upstream at different datum.
REMARKS - 10/01/2022 - 09/30/2023: records fair.  Extensive diversions for irrigation upstream from station.  Quality of data for other periods can be obtained by contacting the Oklahoma-Texas Water Science Center. 
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum peak flow of 43,400 ft³/s on October 17, 1965 from rating curve extended above 7,000 ft³/s, on basis of contracted-opening measurement of peak flow. Maximum peak stage of 22.32 ft on October 17, 1965 is listed in present datum. Lowest daily mean of zero occurred most years.
