07221500 CANADIAN RIVER NEAR SANCHEZ, NM
LOCATION - Lat 35°39'17.4", long 104°22'43" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, San Miguel County, NM, Hydrologic Unit 11080003, on right bank 1,000 ft downstream from bridge on State Highway 419, 0.9 mi upstream from Lagartija Creek, 3.2 mi northeast of Sanchez, 10 mi downstream from Mora River, 25 mi southwest of Mosquero, and at mile 777.0.
DRAINAGE AREA - 6,015 mi² of which 303 mi² probably is noncontributing.
REVISIONS HISTORY - WSP 1177: drainage area. WSP 1281: 1939, 1940(P), 1942, 1946. WSP 1731: 1956-57(M). WDR NM-82-1: 1965(M), 1979(M). The revised figures of discharge for Sept. 1942, as published in WSP 1281, supersede those published in WSP 1311. Prior to September 28, 2023 the datum of the gage was 4500 ft above NGVD29 (determined via topographic map).
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - May 1912 to December 1914, October 1935 to current year. Monthly discharge only for some periods, published in WSP 1311.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder with satellite telemetry and crest-stage gage. Datum of gage is 4423.30 ft above NAVD88 as determined by a GNSS Level II rapid-static survey performed by the USGS on March 20, 2023. See WSP 2121 for history of changes prior to Nov. 1966.
REMARKS - Water years 2014-2015; records fair except for estimated discharges, which are poor. Water years 2016-2017; records good except for estimated discharges, which are fair. Water years 2018-2019; records fair except for estimated discharges, which are poor. 
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - The flood of Sept. 29 or 30, 1904, probably exceeded 100,000 ft³/s, but is believed to have been less than the peak of June 18, 1965.
