07227000 CANADIAN RIVER AT LOGAN, NM
LOCATION - Lat 35°21'00.00", long 103°23'59.00" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Quay County, NM, Hydrologic Unit 11080006, on left bank 1.7 mi downstream from bridge on U.S. Highway 54, 0.7 mi south of Logan, 4,000 ft downstream from Chicago, Rock Island, & Pacific Railroad Co. bridge, 4.0 mi downstream from Ute Dam, 2.3 mi upstream from Revuelto Creek, and at mile 674.0. Nov. 5, 2008 gage moved from location 1.8 miles upstream and new gage datum established.
DRAINAGE AREA - 11,141 mi² of which 1,110 mi² probably is noncontributing.
REVISIONS HISTORY - WSP 1087: 1935-36. WSP 1117: drainage area. WSP 1281: 1912, 1932(M), 1934, 1945-47, 1949-50. WSP 1311: 1931(M). See also PERIOD OF RECORD.

PERIOD OF RECORD - June 1904 to November 1905 (gage heights and discharge measurements only), December 1908 to September 1909, February and April to July 1910, August 1910 to September 1911 (gage heights and discharge measurements only), October 1911 to May 1914, January to May 1924, September 1924 to July 1925, January 1927 to April 1934, August 1934 to current year. Monthly discharge only for some periods, published in WSP 1311. Records for December 1909, January 1910, and May to July 1934, published in WSP 267, 287, and 762, are unreliable and should not be used. Published as "South Canadian River" June to September 1904.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder with satellite telemetry. Datum of gage is 3,667.1 ft above NGVD of 1929. Prior to Jan. 1, 1987, same site at datum 1.0 ft higher. See WSP 1311 or 1731 for history of changes prior to Oct. 1, 1934.
REMARKS - Water years 2014-2019; records poor. Flow regulated by Ute Reservoir, 2.0 mi upstream (station 07226800). Diversions for irrigation of about 90,000 acres upstream from station. No flow at times prior to completion of Ute Dam.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge, 278,000 ft³/s, Sept. 30, 1904, gage height, about 36.5 ft, site and datum used in 1909, from rating curve extended above 14,000 ft³/s, from Ninth Biennial Report of New Mexico State Engineer.
