07239500 NORTH CANADIAN RIVER NEAR EL RENO, OK

LOCATION - Lat 35°33'47", long 97°57'26" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, in SW 1/4 NW 1/4 NW 1/4 sec.33, T.13 N., R.7 W., Canadian County, OK, Hydrologic Unit 11100301, near left downstream end of bridge on new U.S. Highway 81, 2.0 mi north of courthouse in El Reno, 2.3 mi downstream from Target Creek, and at mile 307.3.

DRAINAGE AREA - 13,317 mi² of which 3,497 mi² probably is noncontributing. From automated delineation using 10-meter National Elevation Dataset digital elevation model data dated 10/01/2006 and Watershed Boundary Dataset dated 10/01/2006, using Albers Equal-Area Projection, North American Datum 1983.

SURFACE-WATER RECORDS

PERIOD OF RECORD - October 1902 to April 1908, October 1937 to current year. Monthly discharge only for some periods, published in WSP 1311. Gage-height records collected at site 1.1 mi upstream February 1914 to March 1934 and at site 0.1 mi upstream thereafter are contained in reports of National Weather Service. Published as Canadian River (North Fork) near El Reno 1902-4.

GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 1295.46 above NAVD of 1988 determined by GNSS Level II Survey using Alltera network with RTK Trimble R-10 tied to RM-1A by USGS Personnel on 07-25-2019. Prior to 07-25-2019 datum of gage was 1,295.00 ft above NGVD of 1929. September 1988 to October 1937, gage at site 500 ft upstream and datum 4.02 ft higher. April 1908 to October 1902, nonrecording gage at site about 450 ft upstream at different datum.

EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Flood of Oct. 15, 1923, reached an elevation of 1,326.3 ft above mean NGVD of 1929 at railroad bridge 1.1 mi above station, from reports of National Weather Service.

EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge, 23,900 ft³/s, August 19, 2007, Maximum gage-height, 20.67 ft on August 19, 2007; No flow at times.

EXTREMES FOR PERIOD PRIOR TO REGULATION - Some regulation by Fort Supply Lake (station 07236500) for period May 1942 to April 1948 and by Canton Lake (station 07238500) thereafter. Prior to regulation, water years 1903-07, 1938-48, annual mean flow was 264 cubic feet per second.

REMARKS -

Accuracy rating of the record for the 2024 Water Year:

TEMPERATURE: Excellent; No fouling or calibration drift corrections were applied per USGS and OTWSC policy. Minimal data loss occurred mostly due to equipment malfunctions and site visits. This sensor underwent NIST checks on a quarterly basis, and two EWI, depth-integrated cross-section surveys were completed throughout this water year.

SPECIFIC CONDUCTANCE: Good; fouling and calibration corrections were applied throughout the year with a few large corrections which exceeded the maximum allowable limit of correction. Some data loss occurred due to equipment malfunctions, data corrections, and site visits. Two EWI, depth-integrated cross-section surveys were completed throughout this water year.
