LOCATION - Lat 35°15'51", long 100°14'29" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Wheeler County, TX, Hydrologic Unit 11120302, on left bank at downstream side of bridge on U.S. Highway 83, 2.5 mi north of Shamrock.
DRAINAGE AREA - 1,368.6 mi² of which 551.9 mi² probably is noncontributing.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - Oct. 1951 to Sept. 1963 (miscellaneous measurements), Feb. 1964 to Sept. 1991 (daily mean discharge), Oct. 1991 to Sept. 1993 (annual maximum), Oct. 1993 to Sept. 1997, Oct. 1998 to Sept. 2000 (peak discharge greater than base discharge), Oct. 2000 to current year (daily mean discharge) PERIOD OF RECORD, Water-Quality.-- CHEMICAL DATA: Oct. 1999 to Oct. 2006. BIOLOGICAL DATA: Oct. 1999 to Oct. 2006.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 2,160.55 ft above NGVD of 1929. Prior to Oct. 1, 2015, at datum 5.00 ft higher. Satellite telemeter at station.
REMARKS - Since installation of gage in Oct. 1951, at least 10% of contributing drainage area has been regulated. Flow is affected at times by discharge from flood-detention pools of eleven floodwater retarding structures with combined detention capacity of 18,290 acre-feet. These structures control runoff from 165 mi². No flow at times.
