07343000 North Sulphur River near Cooper, TX
LOCATION - Lat 33°28'29", long 95°35'15" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Lamar County, TX, Hydrologic Unit 11140301, on upstream side of State Highway 19/24 bridge, 2.3 mi upstream from Auds Creek, 5.5 mi upstream from Hickory Creek, 8.7 mi northeast of Cooper, and 15.6 mi upstream from mouth.
DRAINAGE AREA - 276 mi².
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - Oct. 1949 to current year. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers obtained gage-height records and discharge measurements at this site from June 1938 to Nov. 1950. PERIOD OF RECORD, Water-Quality.-- CHEMICAL DATA: Jan. 1967 to June 1996. BIOCHEMICAL DATA: Dec. 1990 to June 1996. RADIOCHEMICAL DATA: May to June 1981. PERIOD OF DAILY RECORD, Water-Quality.-- SPECIFIC CONDUCTANCE: Oct. 1986 to Sept. 1990. WATER TEMPERATURE: Oct. 1986 to Sept. 1990.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 366.28 ft above NGVD of 1929; 372.22 ft above NAVD of 1988. Prior to Nov. 8, 1949, nonrecording gage, Nov. 8, 1949 to May 21, 1960, water-stage recorder at site 50 ft upstream at datum 11.50 ft higher, May 22, 1960 to Sept. 30, 1970, at datum 7.50 ft higher and Oct. 1, 1970 to Aug. 18, 1998, at datum 2.10 ft higher. Satellite telemeter at station.
REMARKS - Some records listed in the "Period of Record" for surface water and water quality may not be available electronically. No known regulation or diversions. No flow at times.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Flood of May 2, 1944, reached a stage of 35.6 ft, present datum, and flood in 1932 reached about same stage, from information by U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and local residents. In 1928-29, the channel was rectified for a distance of 28 mi upstream and 18 mi downstream from this station.
