LOCATION - Lat 32°31'37", long 94°57'36" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Gregg County, TX, Hydrologic Unit 12010002, on downstream side of U.S. Highway 271 bridge, 0.4 mi downstream from Glade Creek, 1.2 mi southwest of Gladewater, and at mile 397.5.
DRAINAGE AREA - 2,791 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - WSP 1732: Drainage area. WRD TX-73-1: 1972.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - Oct. 1932 to current year. PERIOD OF RECORD, Water-Quality.-- CHEMICAL DATA: Jan. 1968 to Aug. 1981. BIOCHEMICAL DATA: Jan. 1968 to Aug. 1981. RADIOCHEMICAL DATA: Mar. to June 1981.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 243.85 ft above NGVD of 1929, 243.48 ft above NAVD of 1988. Prior to Oct. 13, 1933, nonrecording gage at same site and datum. Satellite telemeter at station.
REMARKS - Some records listed in the "Period of Record" for surface water and water quality may not be available electronically. Since water year 1961, at least 10% of contributing drainage area has been regulated. There are many diversions above station for oil field operations and municipal supply.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Flood in May 1914 reached a stage of about 41.7 ft (discharge, 85,900 ft³/s), from information by local resident.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD PRIOR TO REGULATION - WATER YEARS, 1933-1960: Maximum discharge, 138,000 ft³/s, Apr. 2, 1945, gage height, 44.16 ft, from floodmark, from rating curve extended above 91,000 ft³/s; minimum, 5.6 ft³/s, Aug. 16, 1939.
AVERAGE DISCHARGE FOR PERIOD PRIOR TO REGULATION - 28 years (water years 1933-1960) prior to regulation by Lake Tawakoni, 2,012 ft³/s (1,458,000 acre-ft/yr).
