LOCATION - Lat 32°12'38", long 95°45'54" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Henderson County, TX, Hydrologic Unit 12020001, 5.2 mi east of Athens, 2.6 mi upstream from Lake Athens Dam, and 21.0 mi upstream from Neches River.

DRAINAGE AREA - 21.6 mi².

SURFACE-WATER RECORDS

PERIOD OF RECORD - Oct. 1964 to Jan. 1987, Apr. 1999 to Sept. 2002 (contents), Oct. 2002 to current year. Prior to Oct. 1972, published as Flat Creek Reservoir. PERIOD OF RECORD, Water-Quality.-- CHEMICAL DATA: Feb. 1977 to Aug. 1984.

GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 0 ft above NGVD of 1929 and 0.78 ft above NAVD of 1988. To obtain elevations in NAVD 1988, subtract 0.78 ft. Satellite telemeter at station.

REMARKS - Some records listed in the "Period of Record" for surface water and water quality may not be available electronically. The lake is formed by a rolled earthfill dam 3,000 ft long. Deliberate impoundment began Nov. 1, 1962, and the dam was completed in May 1963. The emergency spillway is an uncontrolled 300-foot-wide channel cut through natural ground at the left end of the dam. The service spillway is an uncontrolled 6 by 6 foot square drop inlet that is connected to a concrete conduit of the same size that extends through the dam. A 4.0 by 5.5 foot inlet box with slide valve that connects to an 18-inch diameter concrete conduit extends through the dam and serves as the low-flow service outlet. Water is used for municipal supply by the City of Athens. Data regarding the dam are given in the following table:
