USGS Water-Year Summary 2021
08048000 West Fork Trinity River at Fort Worth, TX
LOCATION - Lat 32°45'39", long 97°19'56" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Tarrant County, TX, Hydrologic Unit 12030102, on left bank 125 ft upstream from Texas Electric Service Co. concrete dam, 980 ft downstream from centerline of Paddock Viaduct (North Main Street) at Fort Worth, 2,600 ft downstream from Clear Fork Trinity River and at mile 556.8.
DRAINAGE AREA - 2,615 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - WSP 1392: 1925. WSP 1922: Drainage area.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - Oct. 1920 to current year. Gage-height records collected in this vicinity since 1910 are contained in reports of the National Weather Service.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder and concrete dam control with angle-iron-crested notch for flow below 50 ft³/s. Datum of gage is 519.24 ft above NGVD of 1929; 519.19 ft above NAVD of 1988. Prior to Aug. 22, 1954, at site 1,200 ft upstream at same datum. Aug. 22, 1954, to Oct. 15, 1955, at site 2,000 ft upstream at same datum. Satellite telemeter at station.
REMARKS - Some records listed in the "Period of Record" for surface water and water quality may not be available electronically. Since installation of gage, at least 10% of contributing drainage area has been regulated. At times, flow is sustained by releases from the flood-detention pool of Benbrook Lake. The City of Fort Worth diverts water upstream of station and from Cedar Creek Reservoir (station 08063010) for municipal and industrial uses and returns wastewater effluent to river downstream from West Fork Trinity River at Beach Street (station 08048543). There are many small diversions upstream from station. Maximum stages have been affected by levee construction, levee breaks and channel rectification. No flow at times.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum stage since at least 1866, that of May 17, 1949.
WATER-QUALITY RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - CHEMICAL DATA: Jan. 1964 to Sept. 1976. BIOCHEMICAL DATA: Jan. 1968 to Sept. 1976.
PERIOD OF DAILY RECORD - SPECIFIC CONDUCTANCE: Sept. 2010 to current year. WATER TEMPERATURE: Sept. 2010 to current year. pH: Sept. 2014 to current year. DISSOLVED OXYGEN: Sept. 2014 to current year. TURBIDITY: Sept. 2010 to current year.
INSTRUMENTATION - Water-quality monitor since Sept. 20, 2010.
REMARKS - Interruptions or periods of missing record may be due to instrument failure or data corrections exceeding allowable criteria, which were deleted. Minimum and maximum extremes may have occurred during period of missing record.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF DAILY RECORD - WATER TEMPERATURE: Maximum, 34.0°C, July 8, 2011; minimum, 3.4°C, Feb. 5, 2011.
