08063562 Chambers Creek at FM 55 near Avalon, TX
LOCATION - Lat 32°09'52.74", long 96°45'43.22" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Ellis County, TX, Hydrologic Unit 12030109, on upstream side of FM 55 bridge, 3.3 mi south of Avalon and 5.8 mi north of Blooming Grove.
DRAINAGE AREA - 400 mi².
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - Mar. 2015 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 338.00 ft above NAVD of 1988. Satellite telemeter at station.
REMARKS - Since installation of gage, at least 10% of contributing drainage area has been regulated. At times flow is affected by discharge from floodwater-retarding structures in the drainage basin. No known diversions. No flow at times.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Flood information for downstream discontinued station Chambers Creek near Corsicana, TX (08064500) indicates that the maximum stage since at least 1870 occurred in Aug. 1887, and that other significant floods occurred in Dec. 1913, May 1944, and May 1958. Stages for these floods are unknown, but over the years a levee system has been developed downstream along the main channel to limit cropland flooding.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge, 12,200 ft³s, Apr. 30, 2021, gage-height 82.10 ft., no flow at times most years.
